Ghaziabad : A sudden fire broke out inside a residential block in Friends Avenue, Shakti Khand-2, Indirapuram. Thick smoke filled the area as residents shouted for help.
Within minutes, fire tenders from nearby stations arrived. Teams used ladders to enter upper floors, while locals helped move people out. One firefighter said the blaze may have started near the power meter, but checks are on. “All residents have been brought down safely. Cooling work is still going on,” a senior officer from the fire department.
The fire spread through wiring shafts before it was contained. By late evening, the flames had reduced but smoke remained dense. Police cordoned off the street and asked onlookers to stay away.
A few residents were treated for mild suffocation. Officials confirmed there were no major injuries.
Background
Similar incidents were reported recently in parts of Sanjay Nagar and New Hindan Vihar. Short-circuits and festive lighting are being looked at as possible causes.
The fire department said a safety audit will be carried out for the building once it cools completely.
