The High Court, led by Chief Justice Ravi Malimath and Justice Vishal Mishra, has made its 170-page decision public, dismissing all 15 petitions that posed challenges to the rules of the civil judge recruitment examination. Several candidates had filed petitions challenging the rules of the civil judge recruitment examination, prompting the High Court to conduct hearings on February 20, 2024, and April 1, 2024, before securing its decision, which was released to the public today.
What’s in the Judgment
In its decision, the High Court stated that the amended rules in the interest of justice and public welfare are entirely appropriate. Consequently, these petitions have been dismissed, and any changes to the examination rules have been rejected. Several petitions had questioned the legality of the civil judge recruitment rules through various means.
Under the amended rules, eligibility for the civil judge examination has been defined as passing the LLB exam with 70% marks without ATKT or having three years of experience in advocacy, along with mandatory scoring of 40% marks in the interview, along with other provisions. This led to several candidates challenging the rules in court.
