Apple Layoffs: Apple Lays Off Over 600 Employees Due to Project Shutdown

In a recent decision, Apple has laid off more than 600 employees working in its organization. The company revealed that it was working on a car and smartwatch display project. However, due to the shutdown of the project, this decision was made.

The company itself shared details of the layoffs. According to a report by Bloomberg, the company provided this information to the California Employment Development Department. As per the filing, Apple has laid off over 600 employees in California due to the project shutdown.

Work on Car and Smartwatch

Apple had recently presented a project called “Prototype.” It aimed to develop a car that operates on voice commands entirely. This car was supposed to be fully automatic and voice-command-based. However, the company stated that it is stepping back from this car project, leading to job cuts.

Impact on Employees

According to reports, among the affected employees, at least 87 were working in Apple’s secret facility. This facility was where the next-generation screen development work was being carried out. However, the rest of the affected employees were working in another building nearby. These employees were working on the car project.
