Central government employees and pensioners have received good news as the Dearness Allowance (DA) has increased by 4% from January to June 2024. Along with this increase, six other allowances for central government employees have also been raised. Here are the details:
Child Education Allowance
Following the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, the Child Education Allowance for central government employees has been increased by 25% upon a 50% increase in the Dearness Allowance. This allowance can be claimed for up to two children.
Risk Allowance/Overtime Allowance
The Risk Allowance rates have been revised based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. This allowance is provided to employees engaged in hazardous duties or those whose work may have adverse health effects over time. Additionally, there will be a benefit for overtime work.
Night Duty Allowance
The Night Duty Allowance has been revised based on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission. Duty performed between 22:00 and 6:00 is considered as night duty, and employees will receive a specified weightage for each hour.
Special Allowance
As per the decisions taken on the recommendations of the 7th CPC, the Special Allowance rates for those fully engaged in parliamentary work during parliamentary sessions will be increased by up to 50% from the existing levels.
Special Allowance for Child Care
Special allowance will be provided to disabled women employees for childcare. This decision has been taken to provide additional benefits, especially when they have young or disabled children.
With the increase in DA, the House Rent Allowance has also been raised from 27% to 30%. This will benefit around 49.18 lakh employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners of the central government. It is estimated that salaries will increase by up to Rs. 10,000 as a result of these changes.
