Haryana is now becoming renowned not just for its paddy fields, but also for its distinctive varieties of rice. Mention must be made of the town of Tarawadi in the Karnal district, which has gained recognition as the “Rice City.” Consequently, this region is now identified as a major hub for rice production in the country.
Varieties of Rice
Rice trader Praveen Garg revealed that Tarawadi offers a wide range of Basmati rice varieties. Various types of rice such as Basmati, Lal (red) rice, and Bhura (brown) rice are not only popular within the country but also internationally. Nearly 150 varieties of rice are available here, attracting laborers from distant regions to work in Tarawadi.
Aroma Reaches Overseas
Garg mentioned that the fragrance of Tarawadi rice has reached overseas markets. The International Gulf Food Festival held annually in Dubai sees participation from rice traders worldwide, with a significant presence of Tarawadi rice merchants. Tarawadi rice exporters also set up their stalls at this event, showcasing their products to a global audience.
Export Potential
Garg highlighted that many traders from Karnal export Tarawadi rice to various countries. The quality of rice produced here is exceptional, making Tarawadi rice popular not only domestically but also internationally. The unique taste and aroma of this rice make it easily recognizable and highly sought after by consumers.
