On the occasion of Ram Navami today, April 17, 2024, most major stock markets, including BSE and NSE, will remain closed. This means there will be no trading activity in the primary stock exchanges today. Ram Navami, celebrated with fervor across the country, has prompted the closure of the markets.
BSE and NSE have announced through separate notifications that their markets will remain closed on April 17. Consequently, there will be no trading activity in the derivative segments of BSE and NSE, which include the equity segment, equity derivative segment, SLB segment, currency derivative segment, and interest rate derivative segment.
Partial Trading on MCX
Commodity exchange MCX will observe partial trading today. While there will be no trading activity in the initial session, the regular session is expected to commence thereafter. This means that trading will remain subdued from 9 AM to 5 PM, and normal trading will resume afterward.
Last week also saw a market holiday. Excluding the weekend, this marks the second market holiday in April. Earlier, the stock market was closed on January 22 for the consecration of the Ram Temple.

This year, there are several other holidays in the stock market. The next holiday falls on May 1, which is Maharashtra Day. In June, the market will remain closed on the 17th for Bakrid. Then, in July, there will be a holiday on the 17th for Muharram. In August, the market will be closed on the 15th for Independence Day. Additionally, market holidays are scheduled for Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, Diwali on November 1, Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 15, and Christmas on December 25.
