The announcement of summer vacations in various states across the country brings relief to millions of school students. With the increasing heat and concerns for children’s health, several state governments have begun to adjust school timings and declare summer holidays. Keeping children’s well-being in mind, the governments of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and West Bengal have announced the commencement of summer vacations ahead of schedule. The respective state education departments have also issued orders in this regard.
Odisha Starts Summer Vacation from April 25
Taking into account the rising temperatures and children’s health concerns, the government of Odisha under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik has announced the onset of summer vacations. Accordingly, summer vacations will commence in all schools across the state from April 25. Schools will operate from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM from April 22 to 24. Earlier, due to the heatwave warning, the state government had announced holidays from April 18 to 20, and now, the declaration of summer vacations has been made.
West Bengal and Chhattisgarh Schools Closed Today
In West Bengal, summer vacations have also begun from today, April 22. According to notifications issued by the Department of School Education, government and aided schools will have summer holidays from April 22. Besides schools, teachers and non-teaching staff will also get a break, although directions regarding election officials related to the Lok Sabha elections will still apply. Schools in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts will remain exceptions, and the current academic programs there will continue until further notice.
Similarly, the Department of School Education in Chhattisgarh has announced summer vacations. As per the orders, summer vacations will be observed in Chhattisgarh from April 22 to June 15. This order will be immediately effective for all government, private, aided, and unaided schools in the state. It’s worth noting that as per the government’s earlier order dated October 11, 2023, summer vacations were scheduled from May 1 to June 15, 2024, with classes running until April 30. However, considering changing weather conditions and concerns for children’s health, the orders have been amended, and schools will remain closed from April 22.
The early announcement of summer vacations reflects the government’s proactive approach towards ensuring the well-being of students amidst rising temperatures. It provides students with much-needed respite and an opportunity to rejuvenate during the summer break.
