Shimla Municipal Corporation employees have received good news as their salaries are set to increase by 10% this year. The responsibility for sanitation services, undertaken by hundreds of employees, will witness a 10% increment in their salaries. The new rates will come into effect from April 1, 2024. However, due to the Model Code of Conduct for elections, the increment in salary will be implemented in June instead of May. Additionally, employees will also receive arrears.
As per reports from Amar Ujala, the Shimla Municipal Corporation administration increases the garbage collection rates by 10% every year for Sahib Society employees. This time too, the rates have been increased from April 1, 2024. However, due to the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the benefits will not be available in May. Payment of increased salaries along with arrears will be made in June, which will include the salaries of April and May. This benefit will be extended to more than 600 employees, including supervisors, drivers, and other staff.
Opposition to Biometric Attendance, Strike Possible After June 10
On Monday, the Sahib Society Employees Union held a meeting, where opposition was voiced against the implementation of biometric attendance, and a demand was made to change this decision with the administration.
It was decided in the meeting that the employees of the Sahib Society, who are responsible for sanitation services, will now refuse to participate in sanitation campaigns conducted by the municipal corporation in the hills and drains.
In the meeting, it was also decided that if employees are called for campaigns, the corporation will compensate them with an additional amount.
In addition to this, employees expressed disappointment over the non-resolution of 32 pending demands submitted to the municipal administration. They warned that if a decision is not made on these demands, they may go on strike after June 10.
