Following Nora Fatehi’s recent remarks on feminism stirring a debate, actors Sonali Bendre, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shriya Pilgaonkar weighed in on the topic, emphasizing that feminism isn’t synonymous with ‘male-bashing.’ In a candid interview with Janice Sequeira, they discussed the true essence of feminism while promoting their upcoming web series, The Broken News Season 2.
During the conversation, Shriya Pilgaonkar initiated the discussion by shedding light on the misconception surrounding feminism
She stated, “People haven’t googled the definition of feminism. Feminism is equal rights, it’s not one-upmanship, and I think unknowingly a lot of people are feminists already but they somehow don’t call themselves that because they think feminism is ‘male-bashing.’” Jaideep Ahlawat echoed her sentiments with a nod of agreement.
Sonali Bendre shared her perspective, expressing discomfort with the misinterpretation of feminism as ‘male-bashing.’ She emphasized the pursuit of equal rights and the importance of maintaining balance rather than advocating for superiority in either gender. Bendre articulated, “The definition has taken on this connotation of ‘male-bashing’ which a lot of us are not comfortable with. I am not comfortable with ‘male-bashing.’ We are looking for equal rights and you want equal rights not up and down. Again that is an imbalance. What you want is a balance and either way when the scale moves and there’s no balance, then there is a problem.”
Nora Fatehi’s recent comments on feminism during an interview on The Ranveer Show sparked controversy
Fatehi expressed skepticism towards feminism, stating, “Feminism. I don’t believe in this s***. In fact, I think, feminism f***** up our society completely… A lot of men now have also been brainwashed by feminism era…if a man can work on being more of a provider, and protector, the women can then focus on being more of the nurturer.”
The upcoming web series, The Broken News 2, directed by Vinay Vaikul, delves into the intricate relationship between politicians and media, exploring their influence on electoral outcomes. Alongside Bendre, Ahlawat, and Pilgaonkar, the series features Indraneil Sengupta, Taaruk Raina, Faisal Rashid, and Sanjeeta Bhattacharya. The Broken News 2 is scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 from May 3 onwards.
As Fatehi’s comments stir conversations about feminism, voices like those of Bendre, Ahlawat, and Pilgaonkar shed light on the diverse perspectives surrounding the movement, emphasizing its core principles of equality and balance between genders.
