In a recent directive issued by the Department of School Education, it has been stated that schools will remain closed only for students while remaining open for teachers and other staff members. This order will be effective from April 30 until the issuance of further instructions.
Vacation 2024: Due to the intense heatwave and soaring temperatures, the summer vacation season has commenced in various states across the country. Starting from April, schools in Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Puducherry, and Tripura have already begun their summer breaks for both government and aided schools. Additionally, in Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat, summer vacations are scheduled to start from May onwards.
Moreover, following Uttar Pradesh, the state of Jharkhand has also decided to close schools from April 30 until further notice.
Closure of Schools in Jharkhand
In view of the scorching heat and rising temperatures, all government, non-government, and private schools from kindergarten to 8th grade in Jharkhand have been ordered to remain closed until further notice. Classes from 9th grade onwards will be conducted from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM during this period, with no prayer assemblies or outdoor activities being organized. This directive will be effective from April 30 until further instructions.
The order also specifies that schools will remain closed only for students while remaining open for teachers and other staff members. It is worth mentioning that the Meteorological Department has issued orange alerts for severe heatwaves in 11 districts of the state, including Khunti, Ranchi, Ramgarh, Palamu, and Garhwa.
Summer Breaks in Gujarat from May
All primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in Gujarat have announced the commencement of summer vacations. During this period, from May 9 to June 12, schools will remain closed. This year, the summer vacation will last for 35 days. The new academic year 2024-25 will commence from June 13.
Official directives regarding summer vacations have been issued by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Monday, keeping in mind the summer holidays. Previously, the summer vacation for the academic year 2023-24 was announced from May 6 to June 9, but the dates have been revised this time.
Summer Breaks in Madhya Pradesh/Delhi from May 1
Summer vacations for students in Madhya Pradesh will be observed from May 1 to June 15, while for teachers, it will be from May 1 to May 31. The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has declared summer, Dussehra, Diwali, and winter vacations for the academic session 2024-25.
Apart from this, school students and government teachers will also get holidays for Dussehra for 3 days from October 11 to 13, for Diwali from October 29 to November 3, and for winter vacations from December 31, 2024, to January 4, 2025.
As per the calendar of the Delhi Education Department, schools in Delhi will remain closed from May 11 to June 30. However, teachers will have to report to school from June 28 to 30 for the preparations before the reopening of schools.
