Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has accused the BJP of betraying farmers during its ten years in power. He stated that the BJP government has indulged in various forms of deception against farmers. While the Modi government promised to double farmers’ income by 2022, it has failed to fulfill this commitment. Instead, farmers’ problems have quadrupled under their rule.
Kamal Nath emphasized that the Congress has always been and will continue to be in favor of farmers’ interests
He labeled the BJP as anti-farmer, alleging that they have consistently made false promises to them. According to him, the ongoing Lok Sabha elections are crucial for the future of the country’s farmers.
He pointed out that during their tenure, the BJP government attempted to pass the controversial farm laws, which would have given the government the power to forcibly acquire land from farmers. However, due to strong opposition from the Congress party and farmers, the Modi government was forced to retract these laws after nearly two and a half years.
Kamal Nath criticized the BJP for its failure to fulfill its promises
Particularly regarding the doubling of farmers’ income. He highlighted the discrepancy between the promised Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops like wheat and rice and the actual prices received by farmers.
In contrast, he portrayed the Congress as a party that stands with farmers and works for their welfare. He concluded by stating that only the Congress party can truly serve the interests of farmers, as evidenced by its track record of supporting them before, during, and after elections.
The allegations made by Kamal Nath against the BJP underscore the significance of farmers’ issues in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. It remains to be seen how these accusations will impact voter sentiment and influence the outcome of the elections.
