School Holiday 2024: Relief for Students as Summer Break Extends Until June, Schedule Changes in Many Schools

For school students across various states in India, relief comes in the form of extended summer vacations as the scorching heat and fluctuating weather prompt the onset of summer holidays. States like Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat are gearing up for summer breaks starting from May. Moreover, there have been alterations in the timings of certain schools to accommodate these changes effectively.

In Gujarat, primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools will commence their summer vacations from May 9th and continue until June 12th, offering a refreshing 35-day break

The academic year 2024-25 will kick off from June 13th. Delhi schools, on the other hand, will remain closed from May 11th to June 30th. However, teachers will be required to attend from June 28th to 30th to prepare for the reopening. Additionally, many schools in the National Capital Region had already declared holidays starting from May 1st.

In Uttar Pradesh, summer holidays will start from May 13th and 15th, respectively, and last until June 30th. Moreover, schools will remain closed on May 7th, 13th, and 20th due to the scheduled voting sessions for the third, fourth, and fifth phases. In Rajasthan, summer vacation in Jaipur schools will span from May 17th to June 23rd. During this period, both government and private schools will remain closed, with summer camps being organized.

In line with the National Education Policy

The timings of government and aided secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh have been adjusted, with schools now opening until 1:30 PM. Previously, schools operated from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This change aims to enhance the learning experience for students. Following amendments in the Intermediate Act, the Department of Secondary Education has issued directives for the school timings. From April 1st to September 30th, schools will open from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, while from October 1st to March 31st, they will open from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

In Bihar’s capital, Patna, school timings have also been revised. A recent order issued by DM Sheersh Kapil Ashok stipulates that all private and government schools up to class ten will operate from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, while for classes eleven and twelve, the timings will be from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This new timetable will be effective from May 1st to May 8th, 2024.

Notably, April marked the commencement of summer vacations in several states across the country, including Maharashtra, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, and Tripura. With May heralding the onset of summer holidays in Delhi, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, students can look forward to a well-deserved break from their academic routines.
