PM Narendra Modi Announces Bharat Ratna for Chaudhary Charan Singh: In a momentous announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has posthumously conferred Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, on the former Prime Minister and eminent farmers’ leader, Chaudhary Charan Singh. Jaiant Singh, the grandson of Chaudhary Charan Singh, expressed his elation, endorsing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision by sharing the PM’s tweet on social media and stating, “Victory achieved.”
PM Modi’s tweet highlighted the recognition of Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji with Bharat Ratna, acknowledging his unparalleled contributions. The government feels privileged to bestow Bharat Ratna upon the late Prime Minister, who devoted his entire life to championing the rights and welfare of farmers. Chaudhary Charan Singh made substantial contributions not only as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh but also as the Home Minister and legislator, leaving an indelible mark on nation-building.
Whether serving as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the Home Minister, or as a legislator, Chaudhary Charan Singh consistently propelled the nation-building process. He stood resolute against the Emergency, displaying unwavering commitment to democracy even in times of crisis, becoming an inspirational figure for the entire nation.
Chaudhary Charan Singh’s Bharat Ratna announcement coincides with speculations about a political understanding between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) regarding seat-sharing in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Reports suggest that the seat distribution between the BJP and the Royal Hada (RLD) has almost been finalized. The RLD is set to contest elections in two seats in Uttar Pradesh, specifically Baghpat and Bijnor.
Additionally, it is reported that they will receive one Rajya Sabha seat and an MLA seat in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. The BJP secured victory in the Baghpat constituency in both 2014 and 2019 when Satyapal Singh, their candidate, defeated his closest rivals on both occasions. In 2019, Satyapal Singh triumphed over Jaiant Chaudhary and pushed the former RLD chief Ajit Singh to third place in 2014. The BJP’s Bharatendra Singh won the Bijnor seat in 2014 but faced defeat from BSP’s Malook Nagar in 2019.
