IPL 2024: KKR Drops Million-Dollar English Pacer, Welcomes Sri Lankan Replacement

In a surprising move just before the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have delivered a major blow to their squad by parting ways with the English fast bowler Gass Atkinson, who was bought for a whopping 1 crore rupees. However, KKR swiftly adjusted its plans and replaced Atkinson with Sri Lankan bowler Dushmantha Chameera.

The Indian Premier League announced this update on Twitter, confirming Chameera’s inclusion in the KKR team with a reserved price of 50 lakhs. Chameera, known for his adept bowling skills, especially with the new ball, brings IPL experience to the table.

While the abrupt exclusion of Atkinson from IPL 2024 remains unknown, KKR had made a significant investment of 1 crore rupees in the 26-year-old English player. Atkinson had previously represented England in 9 One Day Internationals and 3 T20 Internationals.

On the other hand, Chameera boasts IPL experience, having played in three seasons with different teams. He played for the Rajasthan Royals in 2018, Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, and the Lucknow Supergiants in 2022.
