MPPSC Exam 2024, Declining Number of Applicants and OBC Reservation Controversy Impacting Recruitment

The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) has received 190,000 applications for the State Service Preliminary Examination 2024, which is being conducted for 110 positions. However, the number of candidates has seen a decline this year, with concerns arising over stalled appointments and a controversy related to OBC reservations.

In 2023, there were approximately 231,000 applications for the exam. This year, the number has dropped by around 40,000 candidates. This decline is attributed to various factors, including delays in examinations and interviews, along with the OBC reservation issue pending in court. Prospective candidates have been hesitating to participate in the MPPSC examination due to these ongoing challenges. The preliminary examination for the State Service 2024 is scheduled for April 28.

Anticipation of Increased Vacancies in 2024 Exam

The number of candidates in 2022 was 275,000. Comparatively, in 2021, there were more than 315,000 candidates. The decline in numbers is attributed to several reasons, primarily the prolonged controversy surrounding OBC reservations, which has resulted in a halt in 13% of appointments. Additionally, consistent delays in examinations and fewer available positions have contributed to this trend. However, experts suggest that the number of positions might increase in the 2024 examination, potentially reaching beyond 300 vacancies.

In terms of services, this year’s examination aims to appoint 22 Deputy Collectors, 15 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), and 7 additional Assistant Development Commissioners. Additionally, 10 positions for Commercial Tax Inspectors will be filled through the State Service Preliminary Examination 2024.

2024 Examination Outcomes Awaited for Clarity

It is essential to note that the status of the previous exams indicates that around 87% of positions were filled in 2019 and 2020. However, appointments from the 2021 examination are pending, with interviews scheduled to begin in April. Furthermore, the results for the 2022 main examination are yet to be announced, and interviews are expected to take place by June.

The challenges faced in the previous exams and the ongoing controversies have cast a shadow over the MPPSC examination, impacting the enthusiasm of prospective candidates. The outcome of the 2024 examination and subsequent developments will shed light on the future of recruitments through the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission.
