In a significant move aimed at benefiting home guard volunteers, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has announced a substantial hike in the meal allowance just ahead of the Holi festival. With this increase, home guard volunteers will now receive a daily meal allowance of ₹120, marking a four-fold rise from the previous ₹30.
Cabinet Approves the Proposal
The decision to enhance the meal allowance for home guard volunteers was approved during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday. This approval comes in response to the demands of home guard volunteers and the rising cost of living. The increased allowance is expected to provide significant relief to these dedicated individuals.
A Boost to Daily Meal Allowance
Previously, home guard volunteers in Uttar Pradesh received ₹30 as a meal allowance during inter-district duty, in addition to the duty allowance. With the recent four-fold increase, they will now be entitled to ₹120 for meal expenses, making it a substantial increment that addresses their concerns and acknowledges their contribution.
Proposal Sent by Home Guard Department
The proposal to raise the meal allowance for home guard volunteers was initiated by the Home Guard Department. Recognizing the demands and the impact of inflation, the department forwarded the proposal to the state government, which has now been approved by the Cabinet.
Farmer’s Tube Wells Bill Waiver
In another move benefiting the residents of Uttar Pradesh, the Cabinet also announced a 100% waiver on the electricity charges for private tube wells used by farmers. This decision, effective from April 1, 2023, is expected to benefit over 1.5 crore farmers in the state. Additionally, farmers with pending bills will be provided with interest-free and easy installment payment options.
Future Plans and Budget Allocations
The Uttar Pradesh government has demonstrated its commitment to the welfare of home guard volunteers and farmers by approving these measures. The recent budget for 2024-25 includes a provision of ₹1800 crore for the waiver of tube well electricity charges, reflecting the government’s dedication to supporting the agricultural community.
The Uttar Pradesh government’s decision to increase the meal allowance for home guard volunteers and waive electricity charges for farmers showcases its proactive approach to address the needs of various sections of society. These initiatives are not only timely but also reflect the government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens, making Holi even more joyous for many across the state.
