In Hindu mythology, Lord Kubera is revered as the deity of wealth. He is considered the treasurer of riches, a guardian of the people, and a benefactor of society. Kubera is often regarded as the custodian and controller of wealth, alongside being associated with Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity. Legend has it that Kubera Maharaj reigns over the southern direction as the lord of riches, nurturing and sustaining wealth.
Harnessing Kubera’s Blessings
It is believed that when the deity of wealth, Kubera, is pleased, his benevolence perpetually bestows upon individuals. However, if he becomes displeased, financial loss may ensue, potentially transforming a king into a beggar.
Practicing Rituals
To attain the grace of Lord Kubera, individuals are advised to perform his worship and rituals with due diligence. In Hinduism, both Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi are regarded as the divine entities of wealth. It is believed that where these deities reside, there is never a shortage of prosperity.
According to tradition, Lord Kubera does not enter the homes of two individuals simultaneously, as the shadow of poverty perpetually looms over such households. It is believed that Lord Kubera enters homes between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. During this time, individuals should refrain from sitting at the threshold of their homes, as it is said to drive away the goddess of wealth, bringing negative energy into the household.
Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the home is crucial to attracting the blessings of Lord Kubera. Those who live amidst filth are said to be shunned by Kubera. Particularly, it is essential to keep the main entrance of the house clean. Sprinkling water at the main entrance during evening prayers is considered auspicious, fostering purity and inviting the presence of Lord Kubera and Goddess Lakshmi.
Furthermore, individuals who sleep after the sunrise, defying the rising of the sun god, are believed to never receive the visitation of Lord Kubera. This practice is said to invite poverty into the home, leading to the destruction of all joys and comforts.
In essence, by adhering to these rituals and practices, individuals seek to appease Lord Kubera, inviting wealth, prosperity, and abundance into their lives. These traditions and beliefs continue to be upheld by many adherents of Hinduism, seeking the blessings of Lord Kubera for financial well-being and prosperity in their lives.
