The Central Government launched the “PM Surya Ghar Yojana” on February 15, 2024. The aim of the scheme is to install solar panels on the roofs of 1 crore houses. According to recent data, within a month, one crore people have applied for the scheme. Beneficiaries will receive a subsidy to install solar panels on their rooftops, covering up to 40% of the cost.
Objective of the Scheme
The Modi government initiated this scheme to provide relief from expensive electricity bills to middle and lower-income families. Additionally, it aims to promote green energy initiatives. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, 300 units of electricity will be provided free of cost every month.
Rules of PM Surya Ghar Scheme
To avail the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme, certain conditions and rules must be followed:
- Only Indian citizens can avail the benefits of the scheme.
- The applicant must be 18 years or older to apply.
- Individuals from all castes can apply, with priority given to the middle and lower-income groups.
- The applicant must own a house and have sufficient space on the roof to install rooftop solar panels.
- Valid electricity connection at home is mandatory.
- Those who have already installed solar panels under any other government scheme will not be eligible for the benefits of this scheme.
