The scorching heat has reached its peak these days. The maximum temperature in Uttar Pradesh is above 40 degrees Celsius. Intense heatwaves and sunstrokes have made life difficult for people. In such conditions, even a little negligence from pregnant women and children can prove costly for their health. It can cause significant harm to their well-being. Therefore, pregnant women and children need to take special care of themselves during this intense heat.
Lifestyle Tips
When interviewed, Dr. Preeti Pandey, a senior nutrition specialist at Apollo Hospital, advised pregnant women to avoid going out in the scorching sun between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM as the sun is extremely harsh during this time. When stepping out of the house, it is essential to cover oneself completely. Maintain hydration by drinking water before leaving home and carry a water bottle with you. Try not to stay in the sun for too long and drink water regularly. If you forget to bring a bottle from home, coconut water or juice can be consumed. Additionally, ensure to take all prescribed medications on time.
Caring for Children
Dr. Preeti Pandey emphasized the importance of children receiving adequate water intake. Whether your child is young or older or enjoys playing outside, they should have a water bottle with them. Encourage them to develop the habit of drinking water regularly, and ensure their nutrition needs are met during the summer months. Make sure to protect them from excessive exposure to sunlight.
Avoid Energy Drinks
Dr. Preeti Pandey also warned against consuming any type of packaged food or sealed juices. Energy drinks are particularly harmful. Natural beverages such as juice, coconut water, buttermilk, milk, yogurt, or plain water should be preferred. This advice applies to everyone.
