In a significant medical breakthrough, Tata Memorial Institute in Mumbai has discovered a treatment to prevent the recurrence of cancer in the body. Doctors at the Tata Institute conducted initial research on mice, where human cancer cells were introduced. Subsequent treatment involving radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery resulted in the elimination of cancer cells in mice.
The researchers identified that despite the destruction of cancer cells, chromatin particles (fragments of chromosomes) from dying cancer cells circulated in the bloodstream and reached other parts of the body. These particles infiltrated healthy cells, converting them into cancer cells. The research highlighted the recurrence of cancer even after the apparent elimination of cancer cells.
To address this issue, doctors administered a tablet combining resveratrol and copper to the mice. Resveratrol is commonly found in grape skins and berries. The tablet was found to effectively inhibit chromatin, providing a potential solution to prevent the re-emergence of cancer cells.
The Tata Memorial Center has been researching this solution for almost a decade, aiming to enhance cancer treatment outcomes and reduce the side effects associated with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The tablet, awaiting approval from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), is expected to be available in the market by June or July.
Copper-Resveratrol Tablet: A Holistic Approach
Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Deputy Director of the Tata Memorial Center’s Center for Cancer Epidemiology, emphasized the importance of addressing the root cause of cancer and finding ways to prevent its recurrence. The copper-resveratrol tablet offers a holistic approach to cancer treatment, not only enhancing the effectiveness of treatment but also reducing the side effects experienced by patients.
The copper-resveratrol tablet aims to
- Inhibit Chromatin Effectively: By targeting chromatin particles, the tablet aims to prevent the transformation of healthy cells into cancer cells, reducing the risk of cancer recurrence.
- Mitigate Side Effects: Patients undergoing cancer treatment often experience side effects such as mouth sores. Consumption of the copper-resveratrol tablet is reported to provide relief from such treatment-related discomfort.
- Improve Treatment Outcomes: Initial results from the tablet’s administration in patients with brain tumors have shown promising outcomes. The tablet has demonstrated efficacy in preventing the recurrence of cancer and improving overall treatment results.
The tablet’s potential to revolutionize cancer treatment by addressing the root cause and enhancing overall patient well-being highlights the ongoing efforts of Tata Memorial Institute in advancing medical research and finding innovative solutions to complex health challenges. As the tablet awaits regulatory approval, it holds the promise of becoming a game-changer in cancer therapeutics, offering new hope to patients worldwide.
