Can KL Rahul, Gill, and Hardik Pandya Secure a Spot in the World Cup Squad with Their Strong Performances?

As the deadline for announcing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 team draws near, players like Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Prithvi Shaw are overshadowing Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill with their explosive strike rates in IPL 2024.

As the performances of players in IPL 2024 gain significance with the approaching World Cup

Some Indian players are facing challenges due to their comparatively lower strike rates. In recent matches, all-rounder Hardik Pandya, opener KL Rahul, and batsman Shubman Gill have struggled to accelerate their scoring.

In the match against Delhi Capitals, Hardik Pandya had a strike rate of 118, scoring 39 runs off 33 balls, while KL Rahul managed a strike rate of 106, scoring 33 runs off 31 balls. Shubman Gill had a strike rate below 100, scoring 19 runs off 21 balls. On the contrary, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, and Prithvi Shaw showcased impressive strike rates in their innings.

Sanju Samson achieved a strike rate of over 164, scoring 69 runs off 42 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Ishan Kishan displayed a rapid inning against Delhi Capitals, scoring 42 runs off 23 balls at a strike rate of approximately 183. Prithvi Shaw maintained a strike rate of 165, scoring 66 runs off 40 balls against Mumbai Indians. Together, their combined strike rate was 169.

Although only Sanju Samson seems to be a contender for the T20 World Cup team, the exceptional performances of Ishan Kishan and Prithvi Shaw have raised questions about their exclusion. In IPL 2024, Samson has a strike rate of over 150, while Kishan and Shaw have strike rates above 170 and 160, respectively.

As IPL progresses, Hardik Pandya maintains a strike rate of 138.46, while KL Rahul and Shubman Gill hover around 128.57 and 147, respectively. However, Gill’s performance outside Ahmedabad is a cause for concern. Conversely, Samson, Kishan, and Shaw continue to showcase their ability to accelerate the innings, strengthening their case for inclusion in the national team.
