In a recent incident, the home of Congress MLA Nilesh Uikey was raided by the police, prompting a response from Jitu Patwari, the Madhya Pradesh Congress President.
Uikey, representing Pandhurna, is known to have close ties with former CM Kamal Nath.
Addressing questions about Congress members defecting to the BJP, Patwari stated that individuals are being coerced into joining the BJP out of fear of administrative repercussions and the looming threat of imprisonment. He further alleged that Uikey had disclosed instances of coercion and threats to compel him to join the BJP, indicating that such actions are taken against those who refuse to comply.
The raid, lasting approximately three hours, was initiated based on information provided by an informant regarding the presence of a significant quantity of alcohol at Uikey’s residence. However, despite the extensive search conducted by teams from the excise department and the police, no incriminating evidence was found.
This incident sheds light on the ongoing political dynamics in Madhya Pradesh, where allegations of coercion and intimidation are surfacing amidst preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It underscores the need for transparency and accountability in political processes to ensure the integrity of democratic institutions.
