About Gold Purity

The purity of gold is determined by the ISO (Indian Standard Organization) standards, which are indicated by hallmarks. Gold is typically sold in 20 and 22-carat varieties, although some may opt for 18-carat gold for jewelry. The purity of gold is marked on the jewelry, with 24-carat gold being 99.9% pure and 22-carat gold being around 91% pure. It’s important to note that 22-carat gold may contain other metals like copper, silver, or zinc, making up the remaining percentage of the alloy. While 24-carat gold does not have any impurities, it is not commonly used for making jewelry, hence jewelers mostly deal in 18, 20, and 22-carat gold.
