Gold purity is identified by hallmarks issued by the Indian Standard Organization (ISO). Gold is typically sold in 20 and 22 karats, while some people also use 18 karat gold for jewelry. For 24 karat gold jewelry, the hallmark is usually written as 999, 23 karat as 958, 22 karat as 916, 21 karat as 875, and 18 karat as 750. 24 karat gold is 99.9% pure, while 22 karat gold is approximately 91% pure. 22 karat gold jewelry contains 9% other metals like copper, silver, zinc to create jewelry. 24 karat gold does not have any alloy; it comes in coins, but jewelry cannot be made from it.
