Lok Sabha Election 2024: Rahul Gandhi to Contest from Rae Bareli, K.L. Sharma from Amethi, Congress Releases Candidate List

The suspense over two prominent seats in Uttar Pradesh, Rae Bareli and Amethi, has finally ended with the Congress announcing its candidates. Rahul Gandhi has been nominated to contest from Rae Bareli, while K.L. Sharma will represent the party from Amethi in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi in the Fray from Rae Bareli

The Congress has fielded Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli in its candidate list. Rae Bareli has traditionally been the electoral stronghold of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul’s mother. Like Amethi, Rae Bareli is also one of the traditional bastions of the Gandhi-Nehru family, with its members representing the constituency for several decades.

Kishori Lal Sharma to Represent Congress in Amethi

Expressing confidence in a close associate of the Gandhi family, Congress has nominated Kishori Lal Sharma from the Amethi constituency. It’s worth mentioning that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi lost to Smriti Irani of the BJP in Amethi. However, this time around, Congress has chosen K.L. Sharma, also known as Kishori Lal Sharma, as its candidate from this seat.

Congress Releases Candidate List

Announcing the decision on their social media account, the Congress wrote, “In the meeting of the Central Election Committee, Rahul Gandhi has been declared the Congress candidate from Rae Bareli and Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.”

The nomination of Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli and K.L. Sharma from Amethi marks an important development in the political landscape of Uttar Pradesh.
