Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday questioned the growing promotion of eggs as a key part of nutrition programmes, saying India’s traditional food habits already offer healthier choices. Speaking at the Govardhan Puja celebration, he said a home with a cow never faces a shortage of strength or health.
“The family that keeps a cow at home remains healthy. This is God’s leela,” Yadav told the crowd. He said that the heavy promotion of eggs is a market trend and that milk from cows has always been considered the purest food in Indian households.
What cm mohan yadav said and why it matters
Yadav said that the push for eggs in nutrition drives comes largely from commercial interests. For many homes in small towns and villages, cow’s milk is still the easiest and most trusted source of nourishment. It fits both pocket and tradition.
Though the Chief Minister made no policy announcement, his comments underline the government’s steady focus on dairy, rural incomes, and local food habits. People familiar with the matter believe the statement could shape future campaigns on nutrition and dairy development in Madhya Pradesh.
Sources in the Animal Husbandry Department said the state will start new awareness drives in villages. These will explain how fresh cow’s milk can provide natural nutrition and replace factory-made products in daily diets.
Across India, eggs are promoted in school meals and welfare schemes for their protein content. But Yadav’s remarks put the spotlight back on milk as a native, household-level answer to children’s nutrition.
Policy context
The Chief Minister’s remarks align with his earlier push for rural self-reliance and animal husbandry. Over the past few months, the government has rolled out several schemes to support dairy farmers and cooperative milk collection centres.
Officials say that upcoming awareness drives will highlight how local dairy farming can improve both family health and rural livelihoods. Yadav also appealed to the youth to take pride in traditional diets and not follow trends blindly.
