A recent report reveals that YouTube’s dominance in video streaming has returned after 4 years in India. According to the report, there has been a decline in new users for OTT platforms. YouTube has established itself as the top platform in India with 456 million unique visitors. Other platforms had surpassed YouTube in recent years, but YouTube has reclaimed its position. However, the report also indicates a decrease in unique visitors for Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms for the first time in a long interval.
Global digital data shows that the OTT segment had 46 crore unique visitors in January 2024
Which is lower compared to the previous year. Despite the decrease in the number of unique visitors, the OTT sector continues to grow. The expansion of OTT in the digital universe has seen an increase of 87.8 percent. This growth was largely attributed to the benefits OTT platforms reaped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the report, YouTube remains the leader in engagement followed by OTT content aggregator YuppTv
Additionally, OTT platforms like YuppTv, Disney+ Hotstar, Jio Cinema, MX Player, Zee5, Netflix, JioTV, and Sony Liv are attracting a significant number of unique visitors. ZEE5 ranks fifth in terms of unique visitors.
A new report from Comscore attributes the decline in the OTT segment to recent changes and shifts in user preferences. This decline is primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which confined people to their homes, leading to an increase in demand for digital entertainment. Despite the decrease in unique visitors, platforms like YouTube continue to dominate.
