Patanjali Case: Patanjali Seeks Apology from SC, Files Affidavit, Hearing Scheduled for April 2

Following the stern directives from the Supreme Court regarding misleading advertisements, Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali Ayurved has filed an affidavit on Wednesday. The company has unconditionally sought forgiveness. The next hearing is scheduled for April 2.

What Did Patanjali State in the Affidavit?

Patanjali Ayurved, in its affidavit to the SC seeking forgiveness, stated, “Through advertisements, our aim is to encourage the citizens of the country to lead a healthy life by using our products.” Acharya Bal Krishna, Managing Director of the company, further added, “The advertisements released after November 2023 were approved by the company’s media department, which was unaware of the Supreme Court’s orders. The purpose of these advertisements was merely promotional, but inadvertently, they contained objectionable statements.”

Directive for Appearance in the Supreme Court

Despite the court’s orders, Patanjali Ayurved had continued to release misleading advertisements, prompting the issuance of a contempt notice to the company on March 19. The Supreme Court had also reprimanded the company. Upon failing to respond to the notice, the court directed Acharya Bal Krishna to personally appear before the court on April 2.

The case underscores the importance of adhering to legal directives, especially in matters concerning consumer rights and advertising ethics. Patanjali’s move to file an affidavit seeking forgiveness signals a willingness to rectify its actions and abide by the law. The upcoming hearing on April 2 will likely shed further light on the matter and determine the course of action to address the issue of misleading advertisements.
