Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1/2 cup chopped Onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped Tomato
  • 1/2 cup chopped Green Chili
  • 1/4 cup chopped Coriander
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-Garlic Paste
  • 1 tablespoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon Garam Masala
  • 1/2 tablespoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 4 slices of Bread
  • Green Chutney for serving
  • Mayonnaise for serving (optional)

Procedure

  • Wash and soak Moong Dal. If you are short on time, you can make any sandwich without soaking the dal.
  • In a pressure cooker, add Moong Dal, 2 cups of water, and salt. Cook the dal until it gets 3 whistles. After the pressure is released, open the cooker and mash the dal.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once the cumin splutters, add onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala.
  • Roast the spices for 1 minute. Add tomatoes, green chili, and salt. Cook the vegetables until soft.
  • Add the mashed Moong Dal and coriander. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the gas.
  • Spread green chutney on the slices of bread and mayonnaise (optional). Then, spread the Moong Dal mixture on the bread slices.
  • Cut the sandwich into two halves. Serve the Moong Dal sandwich with green chutney and mayonnaise (optional).
