In the recently held Raisina Dialogue Summit organized by the Observer Research Foundation in Tokyo, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed key issues surrounding the relationship between India and Japan, emphasizing the comprehensive balance and challenges faced by both nations.

Global Partnership Flourishing

S. Jaishankar conveyed that India and Japan are currently enjoying the benefits of a strategic and global partnership. During his speech at the summit, he acknowledged that both nations are deriving full satisfaction from their global partnership. Furthermore, he discussed how India and Japan are actively addressing challenges within the global system and achieving a new balance.

Key Statements by Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar

The Foreign Minister highlighted the need for extensive connectivity between India and Japan and shared common goals in this regard. He revealed that India is actively working on its East and West Corridors, including the Arab Peninsula’s IMAI initiative, the International North-South Transport Corridor, and the Eastern Triangular Highway. Jaishankar underscored that upon completion, these corridors will connect Asia to the Atlantic through Asia, serving as vital pathways.

Addressing Challenges

In the same summit, Jaishankar delved into the shifting dynamics on the global stage. He noted that the metrics used today, whether GDP, technology, impact, or demographics, show that the countries once in the top 20 or 30 are no longer at that pinnacle. Even those who were ahead two decades ago are now trailing behind. The Foreign Minister emphasized that the world is undergoing a transformation in the metrics used, affecting the balance of power globally. He acknowledged that newer balances are being achieved, sometimes through compromise and sometimes through tangible results.

S. Jaishankar’s remarks at the Raisina Dialogue Summit underscore the evolving dynamics in global relations. The strong India-Japan partnership is not only beneficial for the two nations but also contributes to addressing challenges and fostering a more balanced global order. The strategic cooperation between India and Japan stands as a testament to their commitment to navigating the complexities of the contemporary world and creating avenues for shared prosperity.
