Strategy Against England in Remaining Test Matches: Team India is facing challenging circumstances against England ahead of the third Test. Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will miss the remaining three matches of the five-match series due to an injury.
The potential absence of Shreyas Iyer has raised concerns for Captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid. Injuries have disrupted the stability of the Indian team since the beginning of the series. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja suffered injuries after the first Test, while Virat Kohli withdrew from the squad for personal reasons. Sarfaraz Khan, Saurabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar have been included in the squad for the second Test, with Rajat Patidar taking Kohli’s place. However, due to the ongoing injury issues and Kohli’s uncertain situation, the team has not been finalized for the remaining matches.
Reports suggest that Shreyas Iyer is experiencing stiffness in his back and pain in his lower back, especially when playing forward shots. His kit bag has been sent home instead of to the next venue, indicating a potential extended absence. Iyer will have to undergo further examinations at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, and there is a possibility that he might only return for the IPL 2024.
Last year, Iyer underwent back surgery due to a similar injury. He has informed the team management and medical staff about his current condition, mentioning discomfort faced after facing more than 30 balls and playing defensive shots.
Iyer’s absence will be a setback for India’s batting lineup, requiring adjustments in the team structure. Considering the uncertainty about his recovery timeline, the management will closely monitor his recovery to ensure full fitness before his return to competitive cricket.
