The star player of Sunrisers Hyderabad, Wanindu Hasaranga, will be sitting out of the first three matches of the IPL 2024 season as he joins the Sri Lankan team for the Test series against Bangladesh.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is proving to be challenging for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team even before its commencement. The star all-rounder of Sunrisers, Wanindu Hasaranga, has been included in the Sri Lankan team for the upcoming two-test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on March 22nd.
Hasaranga’s Test Commitment Forces IPL Absence
As a consequence, Hasaranga will miss at least the first three matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Having already played four Test matches for Sri Lanka, Hasaranga announced his retirement from the longer format of cricket last August to focus on white-ball cricket.
Sunrisers Hyderabad had acquired Hasaranga for his base price in the IPL auction. However, the 26-year-old player has now been selected for the 17-member Sri Lankan team for the Test series against Bangladesh. The first Test is scheduled to be held from March 22nd to March 26th in Silhat, followed by the second Test from March 30th to April 3rd in Chattogram.
The IPL schedule has been announced recently, with Sunrisers Hyderabad set to play against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23rd, followed by a match against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad on March 27th. Their next encounter is against Gujarat Titans on March 31st. It remains to be seen if the spinner will be available for the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 5th or not.
