Traveling with Your Pet in Trains:Traveling with pets presents a unique challenge for pet parents, especially during extended journeys. While short road trips might be manageable, long-distance travel often necessitates relying on trains. In this article, we will explore the rules set by Indian Railways, enabling you to take your furry companions on a trip.
How to Travel with Your Pet:
Travel Classes: You cannot bring your pet dog or cat in Second AC, Third AC, AC Chair Car, or Sleeper Class. To travel with your pet, you need to book First AC with 2 or 4 berths.
Application to Chief Reservation Officer: Once your ticket is confirmed, pet owners must write an application to the Chief Reservation Officer at the respective station, providing information about their pet. This can be done online or offline.
Vaccination Requirements: Ensure your pet has received proper vaccinations. Dogs or cats without vaccinations are not allowed on trains. Prioritize your pet’s health and well-being by making sure their vaccinations are up-to-date.
Booking Process: Only one pet is allowed per Passenger Name Record (PNR).You have the option to reserve your ticket conveniently through the official IRCTC website.
Plan your journey and book well in advance to secure a spot for your pet.
Arrival and Documentation: Arrive at the station approximately two hours before the journey to show all necessary documents, including a photocopy of the pet’s vaccination certificate, confirmed ticket, fitness certificate, etc. Proper documentation is crucial to ensure a hassle-free journey.
Responsibility for Food and Water: Pet owners are responsible for their pet’s food and water during the journey. Pack sufficient supplies to keep your pet comfortable throughout the trip.
Transportation Fees: The Railways charge a fee of Rs. 60 per kilogram for carrying a pet in the luggage van and Rs. 30 per kilogram if the pet is carried in the compartment. Take note of these fees and make your plans accordingly.
Traveling with pets requires careful planning and adherence to the guidelines provided by Indian Railways. Ensuring your pet’s comfort and safety will contribute to a stress-free journey for both you and your furry friend. With these rules in mind, embark on a memorable train journey with your beloved pet.
