UGC NET 2024: Good News for Students, Changes in UGC NET Rules, Making Admission to PhD Easier, Details Below

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made significant amendments to the rules associated with UGC NET. Now, students will be able to secure admission to PhD courses in various universities and higher education institutions using their UGC NET scores. The new rules will be applicable from the academic session 2024-25. This change eliminates the need for students to appear for multiple entrance examinations.

Under the UGC NET admission process

Students will be categorized into three categories based on their performance in the NET exam. Category 1 candidates will be eligible for PhD admission, Assistant Professor positions, and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Category 2 candidates will qualify for PhD admission and appointment as Assistant Professors. On the other hand, Category 3 candidates will only be eligible for admission to PhD programs.

The NET score of Category 2 and Category 3 candidates will contribute 70% towards their eligibility, with the remaining 30% weightage assigned to the interview. It’s important to note that the NET score will be valid for only one year.

Applications for the UGC NET June session are expected to commence soon. According to media reports, the registration process may begin next week. Once the application portal opens, candidates can apply through the official website ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

This amendment in UGC NET rules will streamline the admission process to PhD programs and reduce the burden on students by eliminating the need for multiple entrance exams.
