History of Celebrating World Heritage Day
The proposal for the protection of famous buildings and natural sites worldwide was brought forward in 1968 by an international organization. This proposal was passed at an international summit in Stockholm, leading to the establishment of the UNESCO World Heritage Center. The first proposal to celebrate World Heritage Day was made in 1982. In 1983, official recognition was given to celebrate this day, and since then, it has been celebrated annually.
11 Heritage Sites in Madhya Pradesh Listed by UNESCO
This year, UNESCO has released a list including many historical sites. In this list, 6 sites from Madhya Pradesh are mentioned. These 6 sites from Madhya Pradesh are currently included in UNESCO’s tentative list, which includes Gwalior Fort, Dhamnar Historic Group, Bhojeshwar Temple in Bhojpur, Rock Art Sites of Chambal Valley, Burhanpur’s Blood Fountain, and Gond Memorial in Ramanagar Mandal. Additionally, Madhya Pradesh already has 5 World Heritage Sites listed in UNESCO’s permanent list, including Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Sanchi Stupa, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Bhedaghat, and Satpura Tiger Reserve.
