Kantilal Bhuria’s recent statement during a public address has sparked controversy and drawn strong opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labeling it as derogatory towards women. The ongoing political upheaval stems from Bhuria’s assertion made at a gathering in Sailana, Madhya Pradesh, where he was joined by Congress leaders Jitu Patwari and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh.
During his speech, Bhuria, a senior Congress leader, announced that if the Congress comes to power at the center, it will provide ₹1 lakh to women from the economically weaker sections annually. However, the controversy ignited when Bhuria added a seemingly inappropriate remark, stating, “Those who have two wives will receive ₹2 lakh.” This comment elicited laughter from the audience but triggered strong objections from political opponents.
BJP’s Response
The BJP, taking a combative stance, Condemned Bhuria’s statement, accusing Congress leaders of consistently resorting to such uncouth language. BJP MP Maya Naroliya criticized the statement, denouncing it as disrespectful to women. She remarked, “The responsible leaders of the Congress party are constantly insulting women by using derogatory language. Kantilal Bhuria said that there is a provision in the Congress to give ₹1 lakh to women and those who have two wives will receive ₹2 lakh. We strongly condemn this statement and the entire maternal force will retaliate by assuming divine power in the field and will take revenge for this inhuman statement.”
Call for Intervention
Amid the escalating tension, calls have been made to Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi to intervene and ensure that their party leaders refrain from using such indecent language. This incident follows recent controversies involving Jitu Patwari’s inappropriate remarks, further underscoring the need for party leaders to exercise restraint and uphold decorum in their public discourse.
The unfolding controversy highlights the intense political atmosphere surrounding the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh, with both the Congress and BJP actively engaging in campaigning and vying for voter support. As the electoral battle intensifies, incidents like these underscore the importance of maintaining civility and respect in political discourse.
